The Accellera standard for fabricating intellectual property (IP) cores is Accellera’s Interface Definition Language (IDL). IDL is a standardized description language for describing C/C++ interfaces to other components. A Common Intermediate Language (CIL) is generated for each IDL source file. IDL supports a C/C++ compiler to generate a bytecode for the target hardware (or simulator), for example, ARM, MIPS, and the Accellera Xilinx IP Core Generator (XIPCGEN). CIL can also be used as a target for other compiler tools, for example, to generate code for the Verilog or VHDL languages. CIL defines a set of rules for the C/C++ compiler, which specifies the rules for compiling, linking, and generating an object file from the target language. A separate compiler tool is used for generating the appropriate CIL code for the target.


An accelerator is a hardware module specifically designed to accelerate the execution of some software code or sequence of instructions. This allows the whole program to run faster because of the underlying hardware used. Often, accelerators are CPU-on-chip (SoC) devices that are designed to perform mathematical or logical functions, such as matrix multiplications, FFTs, or cryptography.

Accelerators do not need to run the same instruction sequence as the main CPU. A number of software tools allow the programmer to configure an accelerator program to run in place of the main CPU. By default, the main CPU will run the main part of the program and transfer control to the accelerator when the need arises.

AutoCAD Elements 2.0

Autodesk announced the availability of AutoCAD Elements 2.0 on July 11. AutoCAD Elements is an AutoCAD extension that extends AutoCAD’s capabilities beyond traditional 2D drafting to also include models and 3D graphics.
