opportunità pari?

THE PROJECT

IThe “Opportunità Pari?” (“Are Opportunities Equal?”) project was one of the winners in the open call launched by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers’ Department for Equal Opportunity. The project involved a wide network of schools (around 1200 students), institutions, and associations from two pilot regions (Veneto and Lazio), developed innovative tools, and allowed for the public participation and presentation at national and international events

PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS

Lazio Region:
Liceo Statale Classico e Scientifico DEMOCRITO in Rome
Istituto Comprensivo Civitavecchia 2
Istituto comprensivo “Don Lorenzo Milani” in Cerveteri

Veneto Region:
Istituto Comprensivo 3 in Bassano del Grappa
Liceo Ginnasio “G.B. Brocchi” in Bassano del Grappa
“The English International School” of Padua

THE METHOD

Art lies at the very heart of the project’s public awareness strategy; the sharing of an active experience which occurs in the very moment of fruition: a suggested / requested act, which creates awareness. The element essential to education is that of working as “equals” with students, shaping them and offering know-how when required; embracing their ideas and a broad range of creativity – including art of all forms, be it visual, theatrical, dance or musical – or even working together on forms of communication and new uses for technology.

ACTIVITIES

  • Legal workshops on the principles of the Istanbul Convention and gender equality, with professors from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and lawyers from the Garçon Association
  • Workshops on participatory art with teachers from BEAWARENOW and the non-profit Methexis Onlus
  • Student work on projects
  • As a final event, either an installation or performance was organized in each region with the goal of raising awareness among students, the faculty, parents and families, and, where possible, the entire local community
  • National event: The Medfilm Festival hosted the students participating in the project, and screened all the videos created

End results

The students created a series of public service announcements and videos about gender-based violence. They were in charge of the concept, text, music, visuals, set design, acting, graphics, and the video production. The students chose the various forms of art and artisanship themselves, based on their personal preferences
